Deep down I only loved and pursued emotionally unavailable men because I felt like if I could get them to love me - it would prove I was special and different, and prove that I actually deserved love, even if my parents never showed it to me.
Seeking emotionally unavailable men felt like an exciting challenge to prove to myself I could win their love and that I was therefore loveable and "different" like taming a wild beast when nobody else could.
This is a lie many of us buy into and I am done assuming that if people are emotionally available or expressive that they are not as much of a catch as an emotionally unavailable man.
Just because something is familiar doesn't make it safe or true.
